Who was Buddhadeb Guha?
Buddhadeb Guha, an Indian writer, was his name. He wrote fiction stories written in Bengali. His fiction works will remain in India’s hearts forever. Born in Kolkata on June 29, 1936, this eminent writer is now a living legend. His childhood was spent in the Barisal areas of East Bengal, which now lie in Bangladesh and Rangpur. He was deeply affected by his childhood experiences. His childhood experiences left deep impressions on him. These impressions were later reflected in his work.
Buddhadeb Guha’s professional career
The famed personality was educated at St. Xavier’s College of Calcutta University. In his books of the Rivu series, he depicts his time in Rangpur, Jaipurhat and Barisal. Some of the Rivu books are dedicated his childhood friends. Buddhadeb also created Rijuda, a fictional character who explores the jungles. Rudra is also a sidekick to this character. He wrote that the jungles he described were mostly in Eastern India, just like he had experienced as a child.

The noted writer wrote many novels and short stories during his lifetime. They were highly praised by critics and won him many fans across the subcontinent. He was also awarded the Ananda Puraskar, Sironam Purashkar, and Sharat Purashkar. One of his most famous works is ‘Madhukari (Honey Gatherer). Other notable works include ‘Koyeler Kachhe (Near The Koel Bird), and ‘Sobinoy Nibedon (The Humble Offering).
Many movies were inspired by his works. The award-winning Bengali film “Dictionary”, which was made from two of his works, namely “Baba Howa” (Being A Father) and “Swami Howa” (Being A Husband), were based on these works. Rijuda, the hunter-conservator we mentioned earlier, was also a character.

How did Buddhadeb Guha die?
Buddhadeb Guha was hospitalized for 33 days after he suffered from Covid-19 in April. In 2011, Ritu Guha, Ritu Guha’s wife and eminent Rabindra Sageet advocate, had already passed away. Her two beautiful daughters, and her father, were left behind.
